The Retreat
SolLuna is seven days, six nights of yoga, philosophy, ritual and deep nourishment on the south coast of Sri Lanka.
A place to land at the beginning of the year, roll out your mat, eat well, go inward, and remember why the practice matters.
We built this week around the belief that yoga is not just what happens on the mat. It is how you eat, how you rest, how you move through the world. Every session, every meal, every workshop is crafted to support you through this week and beyond, sending you home with tools you will actually use.
~You leave nourished. Body, heart, and soul
Why SolLuna Retreats?
A good retreat does not just fill your cup. It teaches you how to keep it full.
Yoga as a Way of Life
Food That Nourishes
Effort and Ease in Equal Measure
Ritual Woven Through Everything
Testimonial:
Meet Your Hosts
SolLuna – a shared vision of what yoga, nourishment, and intentional living can actually look like.
Both Freya and Marilena have called the south coast of Sri Lanka home for years. They met here, built their teaching lives here, and lead trainings and retreats together on this coastline. What connects them is a shared belief that yoga is a way of living – that how you nourish yourself matters, and that the best retreats leave you with a nervous system reset and tools you actually use.
Science and spirituality. Ayurveda and nutrition. Biomechanics and philosophy wisdom. Integrity and deep rest. That is what SolLuna is built on.
Freya
ERYT 500 yoga teacher, massage therapist, and AfN registered nutritionist with over eight years of teaching internationally.
Freya found yoga at fifteen. After being diagnosed with anorexia, anxiety, and depression in her mid-teens, the practice gave her a way back into her body and a reason to never stop exploring it. That experience is the foundation everything she does is built on.
She trained first in Thailand at eighteen, fell in love with travel and has since taught across the UK, Spain, Morocco, Portugal, Australia, Zanzibar, and Sri Lanka, continuing her own education worldwide along the way. Her study of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the Hatha Yoga Pradipika runs through everything she teaches.
Her Vinyasa is dynamic and built on a precise understanding of biomechanics and anatomy & that every-body is different. Intelligent sequencing, creative transitions, and the integration of philosophy, mantra, breath, kriya, and bandha are not extras. They are the practice. Music-led, introspective, and known for hands-on assists that are as comforting as they are informed.
Her nutrition work is grounded in science and shaped by lived experience. Personalised, evidence-based, and completely free of diet culture. Especially focused on empowering women to rebuild their relationship with food, their bodies and menstrual cycles.
She is now based on the south coast of Sri Lanka for the past 3 years, where she surfs, teaches yoga, leads trainings and retreats, and offers intuitive one-to-one bodywork and massage treatments.
Marilena
Synergy Vinyasa yoga teacher, Ayurveda health coach, and yoga philosophy educator with years of teaching internationally.
Marilena’s path into yoga was shaped by a childhood rooted in ballet. That early training never left her. It lives in the way she moves, the way she cues, and the way she invites students to explore the body through creativity and expression as much as structure.
Her Vinyasa is fluid and therapeutically informed, blending movement with elements of Qi Gong and physiotherapy. Alongside the dynamic practice she holds an equal love for Yin and Restorative yoga, the slower, more introspective work that she credits as the most transformative in her own journey.
Philosophy is not an add-on in her teaching. Drawing from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the non-dual traditions of Tantra, she makes ancient wisdom genuinely practical, helping students integrate it into how they live, relate, and move through the world.
Originally from Germany, she has been living in Sri Lanka for four years with her husband and young daughter, continuing to deepen her practice surrounded by the island’s nature and spiritual richness.
The Location & Venue:
Ahangama sits on Sri Lanka’s south coast – jungle, paddy fields, warm ocean, and a pace of life that quietly dismantles whatever you arrived carrying.
Soul House is a sanctuary. Lush tropical gardens, rustling palms, open-air spaces, a fully equipped yoga shala, and an infinity pool looking out over the greenery. Warm, considered, and the kind of place that feels special from the moment you arrive.
Around a 9-minute drive from Ahangama town, with the ocean, cafes, surf spots, and local shops easily reachable by tuk-tuk, taxi, or scooter

Food at SolLuna retreat:
Food here is part of the practice, not an afterthought.
Soul House’s head chef Dee specialises in Ayurvedic cooking – using ingredients from the villa’s own garden, neighbouring farms, and local markets. Expect Sri Lankan rice and curries, vibrant vegetarian plates, and wholesome bowls, served family style around a shared table.
Freya and Marilena bring their own layers:Â nutritional science meets Ayurvedic wisdom in a dedicated workshop during the week – giving you not just nourishing food but a genuine understanding of why it works.
Three meals a day are included throughout the retreat, with one evening out together for a special shared sunset dinner.

FAQ
There are no mandatory vaccinations for entering Sri Lanka from most countries. However, we always recommend checking with your doctor or a travel health clinic for advice tailored to your country and personal health needs.
January is one of the best times to visit the south coast of Sri Lanka. Expect warm sunshine, low humidity, and calm seas — perfect for beach time, surfing, and outdoor yoga. Daytime temperatures are usually around 28–30°C, with cooler mornings and evenings.
Light, breathable clothing, swimwear, sandals, reef-safe sunscreen, insect repellent, a journal, and any personal wellness items you love. We’ll send a full suggested packing list closer to the retreat!
The £350 deposit is non-refundable. If you cancel more than 90 days before the retreat, you’ll receive a full refund of any additional payments.  If you cancel between 89-45 days before the retreat, you’ll receive a 50% refund of any additional payments. If you cancel within 45 days, no refunds can be given. Option to transfer your spot to a friend/family member for no extra charge, in the case you cannot make it. We highly recommend travel insurance that covers unexpected changes or cancellations.
Honestly, most people who come on retreat come alone. And most of them say it ends up being one of the best decisions they made. The nature of a retreat like this is that you are never really on your own. You arrive into a small, intentional group, and the opening circle on the first evening is specifically designed to create a sense of safety and connection from the start.
If you are nervous about the travel itself, we are here to help. We can point you in the right direction for transfers, answer any questions about getting to Ahangama, and make sure you feel prepared well before you arrive. The anxiety of the unknown usually dissolves pretty quickly once you are on the ground in Sri Lanka. It has a way of doing that
Yes. Both Freya and Marilena teach with anatomy, biomechanics, and individual bodies in mind. Every session is taught with variations and modifications so you can meet the practice exactly where you are. Nobody is expected to do anything a particular way, and nobody will be pushed beyond what feels right for their body.
If you have a specific injury or condition, just let us know when you book. The more we know in advance, the better we can support you throughout the week. Newer to yoga often means more open to learning, and that is exactly the kind of energy a retreat like this thrives on.
